How to get started with Invisalign for straight teeth in Newport Beach
Have you always wanted straighter teeth but dreaded the thought of unsightly and uncomfortable metal braces that you must wear for years? If so, then Invisalign® may be just the solution for you! Many patients are interested in learning more about Invisalign but aren’t sure how to get started or what the process is like. If that sounds like you, read on for more information from Dr. John Ravera, Invisalign dentist in Newport Beach, CA.
Step 1 – Your personalized Invisalign consultation
The first step is often the hardest, deciding to make the call. But there is no reason to wait, because there is nothing to lose by coming in to see Dr. Ravera and learn more about Invisalign and whether it’s right for you. In your Invisalign consultation, Dr. Ravera will take the time to talk about what you like and don’t like about your smile, what you are hoping to gain from Invisalign, and to understand your general treatment preferences. He will also conduct a thorough examination of your teeth and bite, using imaging as necessary, to ensure that Invisalign will work for you. Patients with the following dental issues are often great candidates for Invisalign:
- Mild to moderately crooked teeth
- Teeth that are crowded
- Minor gaps between teeth
- Issues with the bite, such as an overbite or underbite
It is important to note that Invisalign is not the right solution for every patient. If you have severe misalignment, crowding, gapping, or bite issues, then traditional orthodontic appliances may be necessary.
One of the most exciting things about Invisalign is that you can see your results before you even begin treatment! In your consultation, we can show you what your new smile will look like before you commit to treatment. We will also discuss the cost of the treatment with you at this point, as well as payment options to help you fit your treatment into your budget.
Step 2 – Creating your customized clear aligners
After you have decided to move forward with Invisalign, Dr. Ravera will create a detailed treatment plan based on your consultation and evaluation. Then, your customized aligners will be created out of a comfortable BPA-free plastic material.
Step 3 – Your treatment begins
Once your aligners are ready, you will come into Dr. Ravera’s office and he will give you your first few sets of aligners, as well as detailed instructions on how often to wear them, how to take care of them, and when to change them out for the next set. Typically, you need to wear the aligners for at least 22 hours per day to achieve the best results, and you will switch out your aligners every two weeks to progressively shift your teeth into the correct position. One of patients’ favorite things about Invisalign aligners is that they are fully removable, which means you are still free to eat and drink whatever you choose. You can also take better care of your teeth this way because you do not have to brush and floss around metal brackets and wires that are cemented to your teeth.
Step 4 – Check-up visits
Throughout your treatment, you will come into the office so Dr. Ravera can monitor your progress and ensure that your treatment is on track.
Step 5 – Your beautiful new smile
This is the best step! After your final set of aligners, you can truly enjoy your beautiful new smile. Once your treatment is complete, which varies by patient but takes about a year on average for adults, we will provide you with retainers to wear to keep your teeth in the proper position.
