Whether you are watching the sunset from the bow of a catamaran cruiser, sipping coffee at one of our quaint cafés, or shopping in Crystal Cove, you are bound to see some seriously attractive smiles. Newport Beach, CA is known for them, on both men and women. Many of those gorgeous grins had a little help from dental veneers, a cosmetic dentistry treatment available from John Ravera, DDS.
The veneers procedure
Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin layers of lustrous dental ceramic, bonded to visible surfaces of “smile teeth” to hide imperfections. Composite veneers are made of tooth-colored plastic resin. Veneers cost depends on which type you choose. Porcelain is hard and durable, but composite is more economical. Either is a natural-looking solution, and the process is similar.
With dental veneers, your smile can be enhanced in just two or three visits. At the first appointment, Dr. Ravera performs a comprehensive examination of your mouth. Together you discuss what you would like to change about your smile. If there are no existing oral health issues (such as tooth decay or gum disease) and veneers are appropriate for your needs, a prep visit is scheduled. Little or no anesthesia is needed for the doctor to buff tooth surfaces, reducing enamel by about half a millimeter. Impressions are then taken. If your prepared teeth feel sensitive, Dr. Ravera may recommend temporary veneers.
For porcelain veneers, shading information goes with the models to a dental laboratory where restorations are fabricated by a professional ceramist. You return in about two weeks to have temporaries removed and final veneers cemented in place. Composite veneers are shaped on placed on-site.
How veneers transform smiles in Newport Beach, CA
Veneers are a good choice to improve the appearance of:
- A damaged tooth, flawed by chips, fractures, or wear
- A misaligned tooth, or several that show when you smile
- A stained tooth with discoloration from tetracycline, trauma, or root canal therapy
- Discolored fillings in front teeth
- Gaps between teeth
Porcelain veneers are better at resisting stains from foods, beverages, and tobacco, but with good oral hygiene, either type can look beautiful for many years.Schedule a consultation with Dr. Ravera to find out if veneers are right for your smile. The number in Newport Beach, CA is 949-877-3606.
